Host a PIF Event
A Pass It Forward host invites neighbors into their living room. The host of this PIF event asks their friends to look at the 100 Ways To Pass It Forward - The friends are then asked to choose one way (in their heart) and the host neighbor will help each find 99 other like minded people or organizations, and help introduce each to their peers. The beauty of this kind of event is:
1) There is no money involved!
2) Every person will leave doing exactly what they want to do, when they want to do it.
3) Helping neighbors is a wonderful thing to do!
The "A United World" website will provide all of the tools necessary to implement each persons idea so that they can make a positive difference in their neighborhood!
A "Pass it Forward Host (mentor)" will help each neighbor learn their purpose, organize their passion, volunteer their gift, and engage their heart. This will be accomplished via an online chat at a later date with each neighbor.
Once your mentor helps you, you may want to consider doing the same thing for others. In order for you to put together a successful event, your volunteer mentor will walk you through each step and provide you all the free resources you will need based upon your talents.
Step 1: Register your Event
Take a moment to register your event online. Posting your own Pass it Forward event online means you can get your own web page for your event, invite others to your event, track RSVPs and send details and reminders to your guests.
Step 2: Promote your Event
Encourage all of your guests to RSVP for your event so you know how many people to expect. Also, don’t forget to send an email to all of your guests a day or two before the event to remind everyone of the event’s details
- Create meeting announcement flyers which include time, date, and place. Distribute to as many places as possible such as: apartment building lobbies, grocery store bulletin boards, churches, schools, and public online forums such as Neighborhood Link.
- Set up a free neighborhood website at Neighborhood Link so that when you distribute flyers in the neighborhood, you can give neighbors a place to go online for more details. Be sure to print the address of your website on each flyer.
- Take your flyers door-to-door and canvass the neighborhood or block your are organizing.
- Request articles in local papers announcing the meeting. Many newspapers have local sections dedicated to neighborhoods and this is just the kind of news they are looking for.
Tips for the Meeting
- Be prepared for a big meeting with lots of discussion and more ideas than you might have expected.
- Be prepared for a small meeting—low attendance is common for new organizations and if this happens, stay positive and enlist the energies of everyone who does show up.
- All ideas should be given fair consideration.
- Everyone needs to abide by all six pillars of character: Respect, Responsibility, Sharing, Caring, Trustworthiness, & Citizenship.
- No one should leave the meeting without a task, even if it is simple.
- Eveyone should sign in. Collect as much contact information as possible, including email.
Step 3: Get your Materials in Order
There are some things you should have ready before your Pass It Forward Event. Contact aunitedworld@gmail.com and we will send you the latest version of our PIF powerpoint presentation.

Sample letter below from a PIF volunteer mentor holding her very first PIF event.
Dear Friends,
Just recently, I became a Pass It Forward (PIF) Host (mentor). PIF helped me create my own program called Evelyn’s Acts of Kindness Program which you can now access on my free web page www.aunitedworld.org/evelyn.asp.
The beauty of this type of volunteer work is that it has many benefits. First, I am volunteering my time and doing exactly what I want to be doing, when I want to be doing it. Two, I am receiving immediate gratification from my friends which really makes me feel good. Three, I now have my own personal mentor that is always there to help me accomplish my goals and get what I want. Furthermore, my mentor helps connect me to other like minded people that also want to make a difference under their own terms and conditions.
